685 Construction Update – Changes Coming Feb 13
IMPORTANT 685 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Per the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Riverwalk Drive will close beginning February 13, 2016, for an estimated six months to accommodate northbound construction on FM 685. Please use Great Western Drive as a detour route.
In addition, Knowles Drive will also be closed. Please use Uvalde Drive as a detour.
There will also be lane shifts on 685 in front of Hutto High School beginning February 13, as northbound construction begins. The majority of northbound 685 will be single lane until you pass the second entrance of HHS. At that point, there will be a left turn lane for Hwy 79 and a lane for those wishing to turn right or continue straight.
Also, on southbound FM 685, there will be no left turn into Hutto High School and no u-turn at Carl Stern. Entrance to Hutto High School will need to be made from Front Street, Carl Stern Blvd, or northbound FM 685 (right turns into HHS for northbound 685 traffic will still be allowed).
Traffic, especially during school hours, will be heavy on 685 and on Carl Stern. Please plan ahead, and expect delays.
Initially, buses may run behind until drivers become accustomed to the changing traffic patterns.
SAFETY FIRST! Remember, children will be crossing roads in places you may not be familiar with if you are detouring. Please obey all traffic laws related to school buses. If the lights are flashing red, DO NOT PASS!
Hutto ISD asks all citizens of Hutto to practice patience during this construction period.
Hutto ISD administration will monitor traffic flow at HHS and Nadine Johnson Elementary. While options are limited due to this being a TxDOT project, we will do what we can to help the flow.
We appreciate your patience during the FM 685 construction project.
Speed Limit Change on FM 1660 North
Speed Limit Change on FM 1660 North: TxDOT conducted a speed study to reduce the speed limit on FM1660 North between US79 and Cottonwood Drive to 30 MPH and from Cottonwood Drive to Mager Lane to 45 MPH. The City Council passed the ordinance, and signs have been posted indicating the change.
